Why it snows here
Dolomite snow arrives on southerly flow, not on the Atlantic north-westerlies that feed the northern Alps: a Genoa low pushes moist Mediterranean air against the south-facing walls. That is why this valley can be dry while Austria is buried, and buried while Austria is dry. Big totals on very few days, around 282 cm across roughly 21 snow days.
