snowreport.app

Weather sites answer everything. This one answers snow.

Every weather app can tell you tomorrow's temperature. Almost none will give you a straight answer to the only winter question that matters: is it snowing, when will it start, how much will fall, and how sure are you?

One question, taken seriously

SnowReport.app is a single-purpose instrument. It reads the same numerical weather models national forecasters use, via the open-data Open-Meteo API, and translates them into a decision: pack the sled, wax the skis, fit the chains, or relax. It refuses the two sins of weather media: burying the answer under widgets, and stating a coin-flip as a certainty.

Honesty as a feature

  • Every forecast claim carries a confidence tag derived from model probability.
  • Accumulation is always a range: raw model estimate down to a probability-weighted floor.
  • The Ski Meter shows every point of its 0–100 score and openly lists what it doesn't know (lifts, grooming, measured base).
  • When the data service is unreachable you see a labelled stale copy, never a silent lie.

Privacy as a default

No account, no cookies, no trackers, no ad-tech. Your watchlist and preferences live in your browser. There is no SnowReport server that could log you; the site is static files, and your browser talks to the weather API directly. The full detail is in the privacy note.

Who builds this

SnowReport.app is part of plainforge, an independent European workshop building small, honest, no-login web instruments. No venture capital, no growth team, no engagement metrics, just tools that answer their one question well. Who runs it, and from where, is set out in the Imprint.
