Why it snows here
Canadian Rockies cold is the preservative: snowfall is moderate, but between November and April it virtually never rains, so the base only ever grows.
Reading Lake Louise like a forecaster
The number that matters most at Lake Louise is the difference between the base (1646 m) and the summit (2637 m): when the freezing level sits between the two, the mountain is split into rain or wet snow below and dry snow above.
