Why it snows here
Sub-arctic latitude does what altitude does elsewhere: at 63°N even a 400 m valley floor stays frozen for months, and spring daylight is enormous.
Reading Åre like a forecaster
The number that matters most at Åre is the difference between the base (380 m) and the summit (1274 m): when the freezing level sits between the two, the mountain is split into rain or wet snow below and dry snow above.
